Birth of The Birth Plan
Welcome to The Birth Plan! This site is for anyone involved in maternity care, particularly in rural locations. Expect some robust case discussion, clinical questions, CTG cases and quirky stories.
I’m a GP obstetrician and closet computer nerd working in Northern Territory. I’ve been wanting to get this site going for a while. Reading websites like the wonderful Broome Docs, Life in the Fast Lane, and Pharm got me inspired to think about #FOAMed. But why should the critical care and anesthetic types have all the fun? I was sure there was a need for some obstetric social media. Thus “The Birth Plan” was conceived, gestated, and finally born.
Haven’t heard of #FOAMed?
If you want to know how we practiced medicine 5 years ago, read a textbook.
If you want to know how we practiced medicine 2 years ago, read a journal.
If you want to know how we practice medicine now, go to a (good) conference.
If you want to know how we will practice medicine in the future, listen in the hallways and use FOAM
Caring for a birthing woman in the bush can sometimes be a lonely experience. In the dark hours when things don’t always go right it would be great to have someone to talk things over with. Let’s have those conversations, learn from each other, and discuss what’s new in birth. At the very least, this could be something to read while waiting for theatre to come in at 2 AM.
