Fetal Surveillance App
CTG interpretation? There’s an app for that! The RANZCOG Fetal Surveillance Education Program have made a smartphone app to help give easy access to standardised definitions of CTG parameters and up to date clinical guidelines.
The app has an interactive section with definitions of the normal CTG, abnormal features, and clinical examples. There is also a full text of the current Intrapartum Fetal Surveillance guideline. I thought the app was a handy reference that is great to have as a tool on a phone. However, I would have liked to see a library of interesting CTGs to practice interpretation skills. Also, it would be great to have the algorithm for whether to use electronic fetal monitoring as an interactive option, rather than having to trawl through the text of the guideline.
This is a great evidence based app for maternity carers and is well worth the $0.99 cost. It can be hard to find quality apps for obstetrics, especially on Android. Hopefully the features of the app develop with time. You could always hone your CTG skills with the library on this site, or upload a CTG of your own!
